Compared to assassination in previous games it is A LOT weaker here, resulting in the game feeling less like an Assassin's Creed and more like a fearly mediocre RPG game set in the Assassin's Creed universe in Ancient Greece. This continues up to the stupidly high level cap of 99, which pretty much requires you to play a New Game+ to achieve. Your gear will be either pretty much always lower tier than you if you hold onto the same set of gear for for example the engravings, or it will be a revolving door of new stuff that is on your level since you level up fairly quickly for the most part, while upgrading is stupidly expensive. Combat went from sneaking around, stabbing people in their backs and sometime having quirky combat to what is pretty much a beat-'em-up style system and a poorly developed one at that. Enemies tank rediculous amounts of damage and this is with Easy difficulty because screw having the enemies be even more tanky. The combat in Odyssey honestly just gets very repetitive after a few hours as essentially all you do is assassinate like 1 guy, and then you start dodging and rolling and beating up your enemies for like 5 minutes before looting and moving onto the next camp. Hopefully they'll refine it in future games so there's lots of different specs to play and none really has a clear advantage over another, you just have pros and cons you gotta weigh, with each.įirst off, the style of gameplay is very different from the earlier Assassin's Creeds where stealth was pretty much the go-to for everything, because well, it's *Assassin's* Creed, obviously stealth is important. Felt like it made stealth more interesting than just auto-killing absolutely everything, like in the past. While I initially didn't like that assassinations didn't one-hit kill enemies, I do like that there's a little more thought involved in stealth, requiring you to build adrenaline through killing grunts so you can take on captains and polemarchs. Also, conquest battles force you to play warrior. I guess there is an argument to be made that some parts of the game force you into playing other specs, which you'll get owned in without having the appropriate gear, namely, when you need to take down mercenaries and there's just no way to kill them even with critical assassination combined with hero strike. Stealth feels fine as long as you keep speccing for it as you go along. This means I'm still vulnerable to higher leveled enemies who can take me down in a couple of hits, but enemies around my level aren't sponges for an assassin.Īm I. It essentially feels like Valhalla's damage and level scaling which I vastly prefer and enjoy, but with Odyssey's combat. Also raised the Hunter/Warrior damage only a little bit where enemies don't feel like sponges at my level, but higher levels can still go down in a reasonable amount of time. I don't want to be a god, but I've essentially put my assassination damage high enough to one shot from behind, but Hero Strike in combat still not a one-shot. Even then, the game still doesn't reward assassins fully. I just don't have the patience and time to grind half of the game to get decent enough gear & stats to finally play the character I want to be. Because if a fight breaks out, which it almost always does, it's a fight. Warriors and hunters have it easier in Odyssey. This is a large problem for mainly assassins and stealth players. I just take issue with Odyssey's grind and its imbalanced gameplay. I actually like Odyssey's stories and some of its characters, but I still take issue with most of them and how the writing is in general. This is my third attempt to playing through Odyssey and after using Cheat Engine I'm enjoying it a bit more. ![]()
